Evraz has an opportunity for a Lab Technician to work in our Calgary facility.

Job Responsibilities

The lab technician will be involved in a variety of laboratory-based investigations, which include sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analyzing of results. The Lab Technician will provide all the required technical support to enable the laboratory to function effectively while adhering to the required procedures and health and safety guidelines.

Specific responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:

  • Preparing mechanical test samples
  • Performing tensile, charpy impact, hardness, metallography testing
  • Carrying out routine tasks accurately
  • Maintaining and operating standard laboratory equipment, for example saws, milling machines, polishing wheels, etc.
  • Ensuring the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced
  • Recording and interpreting results to accept, reject or rework product
  • Using computers and performing mathematical calculations for the preparation of graphs
  • Keeping up to date with technical developments, especially those which can save time and improve reliability
  • Following and ensuring strict safety procedures and safety checks are followed.

Job Requirements
  • Diploma in materials science or materials engineering or have equivalent steel industry experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of the metallurgical properties of steel and experience in non-destructive and destructive testing, ERW process, metallography and heat treating processes
  • Ability to do some heavy lifting,
  • Ability to do Shift work (day, evening, nights, weekends)
  • Advanced computer skills in the MS Office
  • Well organized with strong communication skills

Mechanical Project Engineer (ENA3717A)

Calgary, Alberta

Job Description

As a member of the Engineering team, the successful Project Engineer - Mechanical candidate will report to the Engineering Manager. He/she will be responsible for the research, design, analysis of technical data, and technical support of our tubular mills. They will prepare alternatives, specifications, estimates, and provide installation supervision for capital and investment projects. In addition, the selected candidate will be actively involved in activities associated with EVRAZ’s safety, lean manufacturing, 6S, and rapid improvement events.

Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all EVRAZ Policies & Procedures
  • Supervise and be accountable for crews both internal and external when working on projects
  • Create and update mechanical assembly drawings and assist in drawings interpretation
  • Prepare and maintain models and drawings using Inventor or AutoCAD
  • Prepare design calculations, stress analysis and other technical/engineering reports
  • Initiate and complete design changes
  • Provide comprehensive documentation for all projects and archive for future use/information
  • Write proposals including; request for quotation (RFQ), process description, opportunities, costs, and benefits
  • Act as the lead project manager on projects of varying budgets as well as participate in projects in a technical role, supporting other project managers
  • Develop project cost, timeline, plan and scope of work
  • Plan installation schedules and allocate resources accordingly
  • Provide technical assistance for various projects including carrying out field measurements
  • Coordinate projects or tasks with technical staff and contractors as per project plans
  • Provide Project Management assistance to various sites when requested
  • Participate with EVRAZ staff in developing solutions to reoccurring problems

Job Requirements
  • Mechanical Engineering degree with 3+ years of experience and currently registered or, the ability to register with APEGA on the first work day

  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced multi-disciplinary work environment while managing multiple tasks and/or projects

We have an opening for a Stores Supervisor in our Calgary Facility.

This position will be responsible for spare parts management and inventory control, as well as effective supervision and management of assigned work group.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Organization of spare parts in warehouse
  • Supervise staff
  • Ensure categorization and classification of spare parts
  • Design, monitor and optimize spare parts inventory levels
  • Monitor and maintain spare part inventory accuracy

We are looking for a Director, Operational Excellence to be based in Camrose or Calgary.

The Director will develop and implement overall operational strategies. This includes: process, equipment and manufacturing improvements, maximizing plant throughput, creating synergies within and between facilities, identifying and implementing long range capital plans, and creating a Lean Manufacturing organization.

This person will collaborate with Directors, Operational Excellence in other Product Groups to ensure exchange of best practices and to maximize overall company capabilities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develops operational strategies and looks for best practices and improvements to processes, equipment, staging, lay-outs, capacity utilization, etc.
  • Identifies capital improvement opportunities and develops long range capital plans, including budget proposals.
  • Introduces Lean Manufacturing concepts to manufacturing facilities including 6S, Value Stream Mapping and A3 Thinking.
  • Creates and maintains “Mission Control” rooms at each facility for Lean Manufacturing.
  • Facilitates identification of key impact areas and assists with priority setting for projects.
  • Trains, coaches, mentors Process Leaders and initial teams on Lean Manufacturing processes – assists with problem solving, conflict resolution and decision-making as needed – monitors and reports on progress.
  • Assists with identification of team members both for in-facility and across divisions.
  • Champions team needs with management to help remove obstacles and road blocks to successful completion of projects.
  • Tracks, communicates and shares all levels of A3 results – ensures successes are published and communicated to all employees.
  • Coordinates sharing of lessons learned throughout facility, and across EVRAZ NA.
  • Tracks performance metrics (i.e., A-3 “Target State”, KPIs and others) and drives the business benefits of continuous improvement. Ensures results are sustainable.
  • Works with administrative support functions such Human Resources, Finance and Accounting, IT, to create a collaborative approach to project success.

Job Requirements
  • A Bachelor’s degree in engineering, accounting, project management or organizational development is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a manufacturing environment in an engineering, lean manufacturing, strategic operational role are required.
  • Experience in Steel industry is preferred.
  • Experience with capital planning and budgeting including equipment planning, facility improvements and process changes.
  • Proven track record with strategic planning leading to economic results.
  • Strong, successful experience in leading lean manufacturing projects required.
  • Engineering, manufacturing or process background or experiences – ability to understand work flow/through-put through a facility.
  • Experience with change management in a manufacturing or related industry.
  • Training and/or Certification with Six Sigma, SPC, 5-S, TMC, Project Management, Facilitation or other quality/process improvement processes a plus.
  • Must be willing to travel 50% or more

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong facilitation skills – knowledge of tools & techniques of methods to engage and lead groups of people.
  • Experience and expertise in Value Stream Mapping; ability to lead the process.
  • Experience and expertise in leading A3 processes; knowledge or formats and procedures.
  • Training skills – must be able to reach people’s potential and engage their creativity through visual, audio and kinetic learning processes.

EVRAZ has an opportunity for a General Supervisor at its Camrose facility.

The General Supervisor will be responsible for planning, coordinating, directing and controlling the production activities of a plant in order to maintain optimal work quality and quantity or tonnage requirements in accordance with company objectives, in a safe and efficient way.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the scheduled production activities within a production department through Supervising of Area Supervisors and Maintenance Supervisors.
  • Ensures that the operating equipment is functioning properly, safely and is properly maintained.
  • Ensures the proper selection of steel, delivery is on time and the required equipment is available.
  • Makes recommendations and ensures that proper operating procedures are followed to ensure the quality and quantity of product is produced in a timely and most efficient and safe manner.
  • Ensures Area Supervisors understand and appropriately apply all operating rules, including Safety. Decides on and justifies any deviations from the specific operating rules.
  • Where necessary, assists Area Supervisors with their responsibilities thus ensure a senior management presence on the operating floor.
  • Directs between 40 and 200 employees (IE 4-6 Area Supervisors, each having between 8 and 25 production workers reporting to him/her).
  • Coordinates the maintenance activities within the department by supervising one or more Area Supervisors who are working shifts.

Job Requirements
  • A Four year Engineering, Maintenance or Operating degree or background.
  • Operating experience in a heavy industry facility with at least 10 plus years of experience in one the fields listed above.
  • Managerial experience, with an emphasis on managing human resources.

Desirable:

  • Operating experience in a PIPE Facility with at least 10 plus years of experience in one the fields listed above.
  • Experience level to optimize the availability of mechanical and electrical equipment within a production unit or a plant, by efficiently, safely and cost-effectively directing the required current production and preventative maintenance activities.

As a member of the Engineering team, the successful Mechanical Engineering Technologist candidate will report to the Engineering Manager. Job Responsibilities
  • Maintaining and continuously improving the Quality Management System and developing new QA and coordination procedures as required

  • Ensuring the completion of product certification packages, where applicable
  • Managing all QA documents (standard operating procedures, gage management, personnel training)

Job Requirements

Additional requirements of the Quality Assurance Manager include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a manager, preferably 10 years.
  • Should have managed at least 5 individuals salaried and hourly.
  • Understanding of ISO Quality standards and Quality Management Systems
  • Six Sigma Green belt preferred.
  • Knowledge of pipe and /or steel mill processes and operations

Job Responsibilities

The Non-destructive testing (NDT) Coordinator is responsible for Ultrasonic Testing and Electromagentic Inspection activities related to electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular products. Activities will include the management of Ultrasonic Testing and Electromagnetic equipment maintenance, setup, calibration and operator training. The NDT Coordinator will be required to participate in the selection, installation and implementation of replacement or additional NDT equipment.

Position responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate repairs of equipment with the maintenance team
  • Assist NDT personnel with changeover setups and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and implement NDT process improvements.
  • Work with and assist project teams in evaluating and purchasing new NDT equipment or upgrading current NDT equipment.
  • Oversee third party NDT activities when required.
  • Maintain NDT operator training and certification records and conduct training.
  • Support and comply with company quality and safety policies and programs
  • Perform periodic audits to ensure conformance with documented NDT work procedures.

We are seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to join our growing manufacturing management team in Regina.

This management role shall take a lead in Contract Review in Steel Quality Assurance (QA ) and liaison with EVRAZ Tubular Products Group (TPG). This person will interact with the mill QA teams and operations departments on a routine basis to ensure that a high quality product is produced as efficiently and safely as possible.

Job Responsibilities

As a Metallurgical Engineer, Quality Assurance you will provide oversight for the Steel Manufacturing Specification, product inspection and testing activities, product claims management, and quality systems management for the EVRAZ Steel Products Group.

In this role, you will interact with mill personnel at all levels, attend customer pre-production meetings, and also interact with Quality Assurance (QA) team and mid-level manufacturing management.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the maintenance and continual improvement of the Steel Quality Management System; working with the QA team members to develop/improve new Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QC) procedures as required
  • Interpreting industry or customer standards/specifications and communicating inspection, testing or processing requirements to QA/Operations teams
  • Developing best QA practices for Steelmaking Process and Improving customer satisfaction
  • Development of an effective corrective actions for customer complaints and significant internal issues
  • Developing internal audit process for QC systems within TPG; conducting audits routinely to determine QC effectiveness
  • Developing trending for QA KPI’s such as rejects, rework, downgrades by mill, product; publishing update reports monthly and providing analysis of the data with necessary action items; working with manufacturing team to improve trends
  • Conduct capability analysis for all products and process
  • Design of experiments for all new products

Job Requirements

To be successful as a Metallurgical Engineer, Quality Assurance you must understand ISO Quality standards and Quality Management Systems including quality control planning for new products. Someone with knowledge of Steel and pipe and/or steel mill processes and operations would be a good fit for this role.

Additional requirements for this role include:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Material Science Engineering. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance is preferable
  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards including API, CSA, and ASTM
  • Trained and certified in Quality Auditing & reporting.
  • Six Sigma knowledge in problem solving shall be preferred

We have an opening for an Project Engineering Technologist at our Regina Facility.

As a member of the Engineering team, the successful Project Engineering Technologist candidate will report to the Engineering Manager. He/she will be responsible for maintaining site and equipment drawings, lead projects, design equipment, maintain documentation related to Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) manufacturing equipment and support the maintenance and operations teams with technical assistance as required. In addition, the selected candidate will be actively involved in activities associated with EVRAZ’s safety, lean manufacturing, 6S, and rapid improvement events.

Job Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all EVRAZ Policies & Procedures
  • Supervise and be accountable for crews, both internal and external, when working on projects
  • Research and resolve drawing interpretation problems, conflicts, interferences and errors
  • Create and update mechanical assembly drawings and assist in drawings interpretation
  • Prepare and maintain models and drawings using Inventor or AutoCAD
  • Manage the drawing system for the site
  • Prepare design calculations, stress analysis and other technical/engineering reports
  • Initiate and complete design changes
  • Develop project cost, timeline, plan and scope of work
  • Plan installation schedules and allocate resources accordingly
  • Provide technical assistance for projects including carrying out field measurements
  • Coordinate projects or tasks with technical staff and contractors as per project plans
  • Provide Project Management assistance to various sites when requested
  • Participate with EVRAZ staff in developing solutions to reoccurring problems
  • Apply reliability techniques to improve equipment availability
  • Assist in the preparation of high quality reports on time
  • Understand and assess material handling and large scale industrial manufacturing equipment
  • Actively participate in team meetings and company initiatives
  • Lead, assist or participate in meetings, improvement projects, safety initiatives and rapid improvement events

Job Requirements
  • Project Engineering diploma with 4+ years of experience and currently registered or, the ability to register with SASTT on the first work day
  • Excellent organizational skills, goal and detail oriented
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced multi-disciplinary work environment while managing multiple tasks and/or projects
  • Self motivated, innovative and willing to take on new challenges
  • Analytical with excellent problem solving abilities (theoretical and practical)
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly related to MS Office Suite, CAD and engineering software

  • Controlling, inspecting, calibrating and maintaining MTE and other equipment, critical to the qualification and inspection of product used in the transportation of Oil and Gas Ensure
  • Managing welding procedures and qualifications in accordance with both Canadian and American governing bodies
  • Coordinating tests with operations management

Job Requirements

As a Lab Leader, you will have a diploma in Metallurgical Technology or equivalent and one year related experience.

EVRAZ is looking for a Quality Control Supervisor for its Regina location.

Job Responsibilities

The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for specific quality assurance activities related to coatings and corrosion at their assigned location such as supervision of the product test lab and production (if applicable), QA/QC responsibilities for a specific mill or coating facility, relating to product acceptance, as well as analysis of product quality data and corresponding leadership role in the improvement cycle.

Principal Activities:

  • Perform periodic audits to ensure conformance with documented work procedures. As required, participate in TPG internal and external audit functions.
  • Monitor downgrade trends specific and communicate issues to QA and Operations. Develop improvement opportunities.
  • Provide dispositions for product on quality hold.
  • Participate in product and process trials with pipe making, and research personnel.
  • Investigate, analyze results and compile reports on product claims.
  • Drives vendor’s quality improvement through process audits
  • Assesses potential new suppliers
  • Performs supplier corrective action verification activities
  • Liaise with QA Management to manage incoming inspection issues and field issues
  • Develop training literature for quality inspectors.

Job Requirements
  • Recognized Degree in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 years minimum experience in quality control/systems a plus.
  • Understanding of ISO Quality standards and Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of pipe processes and operations.
  • Knowledge of tubular industry standards including API, CSA, ASTM.
  • Trained in quality auditing.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels of management to accomplish tasks.
  • Able to work effectively with hourly and management ranks.

  • Periodic travel between US and Canada.

Job Responsibilities

As an Electrical Engineer you will perform engineering project management, design, and technical support as defined by all departments in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner.

Responsibilities of the Senior Electrical Engineer include:

  • Providing all departments with equipment and designs that meet company standards.
  • Providing technical support and troubleshooting services to Maintenance and Operations Departments.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to write technical documents and specifications.
  • Knowledge of Electrical theory, Industrial Power equipment including HV substation, transformers, MV switchgear, MV & LV motor control system, DC & AC Drives, and instrumentation & control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic schematics and drawings.
  • Experience with troubleshooting techniques on manufacturing equipment/processes.

  • Able and willing to support 24-hour Rolling mill and Meltshop operation through variable shifts and/or on-call, when required.
  • Ability to work in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust and noise.

The General Scrap Partnership has been in the recycling industry for over 40 years and is Western Canada’s largest scrap metal recycler, with locations throughout the Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, North Dakota and Colorado. We operate fully integrated scrap operations where we buy, process and sell a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous material. We also operate auto wrecking yards offering a great selection of low cost parts on a self-serve basis.

We are seeking a qualified Raw Materials Purchasing Agent in Thunder Bay, Ontario to join our team. You will be responsible for the procurement of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap for our processing facility in Thunder Bay. You will also be coordinating activities with regional GM’s & Managers, Regional Yard Buyers, and Mill Buyers, as well as Transportation, Operations and Accounting personnel. You will be reporting to the Director of Business Development.

Job Responsibilities
  • Research current market trends in order to provide optimum total cost strategies.
  • Investigates new sources of scrap and develops relationships leading to the procurement of all grades required for the Scrap Processing facilities.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all costs associated with the purchase of ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
  • Prepare and support analysis of material costs, including understanding of how freight influences overall costs and support a position or strategy
  • Forecasting duties to coordinate the development of short and long-term purchasing strategies.
  • Off site travel will be required, meeting in person with current and potential suppliers to establish and maintain effective market relationships.
  • Settlement of discrepancies within management guidelines
  • Maintaining quality standards, and coordinating ongoing supply chain activities.
  • Monitor and maintain continuity of supply, as well as the safety-related and environmental aspects of materials purchased.

Job Requirements
  • Self-starter with the ability to initiate business, possess strong negotiating, communication, and problem-solving skills.
