Rail - DHH and Standard Carbon

Using advanced technologies, EVRAZ Pueblo produces the highest quality standard carbon and high-strength, deep head-hardened rail available—and is the only domestic producer of DHH 390, DHH390s (micro-alloy), HCP 410 and OCP425 rail.

The Rail Mill consistently exceeds stringent AREMA specifications for premium head-hardened rail, making our products the hardest rails, with the greatest depth of hardness, produced anywhere.

The facility produces both standard carbon, and head-hardened grades of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA), in sizes 115, 119, 132, 133, 136, and 141 lb./yd

The facility also produces International Union of Railways rail in 54 to 60kg/m, in lengths ranging from 39 ft. to 80 ft. (12m to 24m), continuously welded strings.

EVRAZ Pueblo Rail Ultrasonic Rail Inspection (UT) System

The EVRAZ Pueblo Rail Mill’s industry-leading Ultrasonic Rail Inspection (UT) System combines the latest in ultrasonic and computer technology. The 64-element Array produces 32 virtual probes in an overlapping configuration for optimum, no-gap inspection coverage.

The UT system’s rolling search unit provides excellent coupling efficiency, and readily conforms to the inspection surfaces.

Top Head Inspection

The Rail Mill's UT system utilizes phased array technology, detecting defects oriented parallel to the top surface of the head at depths of 0.250” to 1.250”.

Side Head Inspection

Using three transducers with 50% overlapping coverage, the UT system detects defects oriented parallel to the side head within 1.125” on either side of the vertical centerline.

Web Inspection

Detects defects oriented parallel to the web surface. The system's transducer configuration minimizes sources of false defect indications.

Base Inspection

The UT system detects base surface cracks and seams and subsurface defects located within 0.750” on either side of the base centerline.

Through-rail inspection

Detects defects in the head, web and base, oriented parallel to the top head of the rail.
